Islenska plöntuhandbókin er einhver vinsælasta handbók sinnar tegundar og birtist nú í nýjum búningi, ríkulega aukin og endurbætt. Fjallað er um 465 tegundir plantna, þar af margar sem hafa bæst við íslenska flóru á undanförnum árum. Bókin er ríkulega myndskreytt en í henni er að finna litmynd af hverri tegund, skýringarteikningu og útbreiðslukort. Við flokkun plantnanna eru notaðir sérstakir myndlyklar þar sem þeim er raðað eftir blómalit og öðrum áberandi einkennum, og einnig eru í bókinni gagnlegir efnislyklar. Allt þetta gerir að verkum að bókin bókin nýtist vel til að þekkja sundur plöntur og fræðast um hina fjölbreyttu og fögru flóru landsins. Höfundurinn, Hörður Kristinsson, er doktor í grasafræði og hefur um árabil stundað rannsóknir á íslenskum plöntum.
The Icelandic Plant Handbook is one of the most popular handbooks of its kind and is now published in a new guise, richly expanded and improved. 465 species of plants are discussed, many of which have been added to the Icelandic flora in recent years. The book is richly illustrated and contains a color picture of each type, an explanatory drawing and a distribution map. The classification of the plants uses special image keys where they are arranged according to flower color and other prominent characteristics, and there are also useful material keys in the book. All this means that the book is useful for recognizing plants and learning about the diverse and beautiful flora of the country. The author, Hörður Kristinsson, has a doctorate in botany and has been researching Icelandic plants for many years.
This book exists in english and in german in Islandic bookshops and visitor's centers.
