Summary
Abstract. A contribution to the knowledge of the Phengodidae of French Guiana, with the description of eight new species (Coleoptera: Elateroidea). New large scale collections in French Guiana with interception traps reveal a rich diversity of Phengodidae (Elateroidea), from where only a single species was known. From the eighteen species observed, nine are cited from French Guiana for the first time and other eight are new to science: Pseudophengodes brulei n. sp., Pseudophengodes dalensi n. sp., Brasilocerus wittmeri n. sp., Eurymastinocerus guyanensis n. sp., Howdenia saulensis n. sp., Mastinocerus (Paramastinocerus) itoupensis n. sp., Mastinocerus (Paramastinocerus) touroulti n. sp. and Taximastinocerus fernandezi n. sp. New synonymy: Brasilocerus belemensis Wittmer, 1988 = Brasilocerus wygodzinskyi Wittmer, 1976. New combination: Ptorthodius lanei Wittmer, 1976, is transfered in the genus Taximastinocerus Wittmer, 1963. Generic and specific keys (in French) are provided to separate the Phengodidae of French Guiana as also illustrations of their habitus and of their morphological characters. Finally, original keys (in English) are provided to identify the species of the neotropical genera Eurymastinocerus Wittmer, 1976, Howdenia Wittmer, 1976, Mastinocerus (sous-genre Paramastinocerus Wittmer, 1976), Oxymastinocerus Wittmer, 1963 and Taximastinocerus Wittmer, 1963. Keywords. Phengodidae, French Guiana, taxonomy, new species, new country record, checklist.
