Summary

All the stag beetle species known to occur in Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji are illustrated. For most taxa, sexual dimorphism and individual variability are also illustrated. In many cases the photos of Type specimens have been included.

Taxonomy is updated to the most recent published revisions. For every species the synonymies are given, together with their general distribution. There is a long and complete Bibliography of about 330 papers which deals with the Lucanidae of the studied areas. There are also many pictures of species habitat and of alive specimens of some species.

The three Authors are well known specialists of the Coleopteran family Lucanidae.

The book is a must for amateurs and professionals interested in the study of stag beetles, and for natural history museums and libraries of educational and research institutions.
